Countless households and restaurants worldwide depend on bottled gas for cooking. Chama set out to revolutionise the way millions access gas, offering a user-friendly app for seamless ordering. This revolution was in Brazil.

Chama, headquartered in São Paulo with tech operations in Amsterdam, entrusted me with a dual-role split between both locations.

In a nutshell, Chama's mobile app allowed gas consumers to place orders seamlessly. These orders would then be transmitted to the gas reseller, who would subsequently relay the details to their drivers—a process reminiscent of ordering a pizza in days gone by.

As an initial step, I conducted a comprehensive teardown of the app we were preparing to ship. This involved breaking down the service into a detailed blueprint. These artifacts became invaluable tools in numerous stakeholder alignment sessions, guiding discussions to pinpoint areas for prioritized service enhancements.

Collaborating closely with our user researcher on the ground in São Paulo, we conducted 60 in-depth interviews with Chama customers. Together, we meticulously grouped the insights into personas, providing valuable clarity on our customer base and guiding prioritization efforts.

Spearheading the in-app payment project was the pinnacle of my involvement. Tackling the challenge of delivering a seamless end-to-end experience for both customers and gas resellers, I initiated the design sprint with the team and led early validation efforts. This groundwork paved the way for extensive redesigns of both the consumer app and dealer tool, ensuring a smoother and more intuitive experience for all stakeholders involved.
