TomTom Watch OS

Lead Designer
Project Overview
In 2017, TomTom flipped the script, ditching the old RTOS platform and diving headfirst into the Android revolution. With millions of sports devices already in the game, we set out to redefine the entire experience from the ground up, landing in a plethora of watches spanning fitness, running, trekking, and golf.
My Contributions
As the lead designer, partnered with the illustrious Sr. Visual Design wizard Elmar Haneveld, I orchestrated a symphony of innovation.

Pioneered the interaction model for app navigation, input methods, and seamless integration with companion apps.

Crafted the sleek new UI for the watch application, subjecting early prototypes to top-tier user tests.

Teamed up with Industrial Design virtuoso Samuel Broadbent to optimize input methods and select displays.

Locked arms with Product Manager extraordinaire Gavin Spence to align every facet of the project, from software to marketing, on the fast track to launch success.
Our journey kicked off by revolutionizing the user-device interaction. In tight collaboration with the User Research titans, we dissected the flaws in existing watches and unleashed a barrage of innovative ideas. Sam, our hardware virtuoso, brought these concepts to life in stunning prototypes.
Defining the interaction model
Interaction Design
With existing applications as our foundation, I dove headfirst into the task of transforming their functionality into a seamless interaction flow within our chosen framework.Teaming up with the mobile squads, I crafted a groundbreaking concept that set the stage for engineering feasibility and meticulous planning.
Watch Apps
Interaction Design
At the heart of the existing TomTom watches lay their iconic, eye-catching metrics. Our mission? To maintain that effortless glanceability while breaking a sweat. And to top it off, we seamlessly integrated the sleek Gotham font, marrying it with our new brand guidelines for a match made in design heaven.
Getting the numbers right
